VIP First Dibs Collection - PONO

Extra, extra! Calling all VIPs!

You're getting the first chance to see our newest artist, Shay Macancheez, AKA PONO.  
His moniker is a Hawaiian word that means ‘Righteousness’.

In many of his paintings you'll find a story made from a mixture of house paint and joint compound. Layers of paint are dense enough to cast a shadow, giving the illusion of collage. 

In others, you'll find a smooth layer of Eggshell Enamel. "The Last Holdout" is an example of his textureless mark-making. 

PONO's velvety matte scenes compliment the surface they live on. In "Stranger Danger", PONO's iconic character comes to life on a cutout of red oak.

"Pono is an amalgamation of all things, symbols and characters, comical folklore that begs and borrows and steals what is necessary to create the narrative. Currently exploring the human condition through characters that can be related to every day life, often impaled and ridden with bullets or arrows. Pono is a dumb luck anti-hero that seeks the truth despite the traps and nature of the world we currently inhabit. It will persevere, even through death. It is a myth, but Pono is also yourself."
