Dan Grissom

Hello, I'm Dan. I'm a designer, illustrator, painter, print-maker and musician originally from rural Louisiana that lives and works in Austin, TX. I've done all of those things professionally in varying capacities for the past 15 years or so. I studied graphic design, but ended up leaning more toward fine art painting in the last year or so of college. I started grad school in 2004, studying painting and print-making. In the print shop, I focused on block printing and letterpress and eventually getting into screen printing as well. I then moved to Austin is 2006, working as a graphic designer. A few years later, I got a job as the flat stock screen printer and letterpress specialist at Sanctuary Printshop. There I learned to juggle lots of different print jobs and work with other designers on printing their work. In 2013, I started printing for Nakatomi Inc while focusing much more on freelance design and illustration work. Around this time I also started to focus more on my own artwork again. In the Spring of 2017, I officially broke off on my own and am now a full-time freelance illustrator and screen printer, working out of my garage that I call Biscuit Press. In this air conditioned, but still pretty hot garage, I print my own work along with my longtime friend / letterpress artist Lindsey Verrill and my dog Buck. I have a 1949 Kluge open face letterpress that I can also set up for die cutting, as well as a full setup for screen printing flat stock posters and art prints. Lindsey has a Vandercook Universal I flatbed letterpress from the late 1950s.
