Landry McMeans

Landry McMeans is a full-time artist based in Austin, Texas, whose work is deeply inspired by the American West and a lifelong fascination with color. Drawing largely from desert landscapes, flora, and fauna, she creates limited-edition stencil paintings that evoke a sun-bleached dreamworld of the Southwest. Her large-scale, often lifesize compositions balance a warm, organic sensibility with crisp lines and a refined graphic presence. With a sophisticated, muted desert palette, she simplifies each subject to its most essential and striking elements, enlarging what is often small or overlooked to create immersive, serene experiences.

With a background in graphic design, McMeans utilizes stenciling as her primary medium, beginning each piece by composing layered imagery in Photoshop, much like a screen print. Every layer is translated into hand-cut bristol paper stencils, and each color is carefully hand-mixed and applied to achieve clean, defined shapes. Some works contain more than fourteen stencil layers, underscoring her precision and dedication to craft. Each print is a handmade original within a limited edition, shaped by the evolving life of the stencils themselves. As the materials gradually wear, subtle variations emerge, giving every piece a distinct character and reinforcing her embrace of process, impermanence, and creative evolution.
